Temecula’s wineries fall from record-setting highs amidst coronavirus pandemic

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Temecula’s once booming tourism economy has been severe. Although the full impact is yet unknown, a series of layoffs and store closures have led some in Temecula’s $1 billion tourism industry to see a 90% decline in business.

As Bill Wilson of Temecula’s Wilson Creek Winery and Vineyard told City News Service, “We were having our best year ever, really our best year, and no one saw this coming. All of our reserves are now going into minimizing the impact of the virus.”

Wineries and Breweries have become an economic pillar for Temecula’s economy in recent years. According to Temecula Valley’s tourism association, as of November 2019, wineries contributed over $99.6 million to the regional economy, thanks to the 1.5 million visiting wine enthusiasts in 2018.
