All eight of our centers offer no cost, no catch consulting and training workshops on several business topics throughout the Orange County and Inland Empire counties. Our consulting services are offered at no cost as well as our training workshops, however, some SBDC centers offer workshops at a low fee.
Here’s how the SBDC works
SBDC consulting services are free
You read it right – our consulting services are offered at no cost, no catch. This is possible because we are partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the California Governor’s Office of Business sand Economic Development, several host institutions, local grant funds, and more.
Our consultants are handpicked in a variety of different fields based on the expertise they have. In adherence to SBDC accreditation standards, our team is bound by strict confidentiality and security policies of each session.
Our consultants are paid and experienced
Our consultants are compensated through our program’s funding and are well-versed in a variety of different fields and industries. Take a look at our staff and consultants on our staff page.
Training opportunities are offered at a nominal fee or at no cost
Our workshops and training opportunities are offered at no-cost basis or a low fee. Each SBDC service center is responsible for creating their respective programs, thus pricing may be different from one location to another.
We provide our clients access to our extensive network
Our clients are connected with our extensive network of partners, public agencies, and non-profits, who can help provide your business with potential resources.
We also provide your clients with grand openings and ribbon-cutting events for our “success story” clients. Through these events, we provide publicity for your business which is highlighted by local press and SBDC marketing channels – all at no cost to the client.
It’s easy to become a client, here’s how to sign up
Click on the “get started” button to become an SBDC client and complete a brief questionnaire about your business. Our SBDC centers will contact you to make an appointment based on your location and your needs and go over the next steps. You can also request an appointment by coming to our service centers directly.
SBDC services are generally offered to for-profit businesses with less than 500 employees.
So you’ve signed up for services,
here’s what next
Your first appointment
During your first appointment, our consultants will get to know you, your business, and address your business’s needs. Our SBDC consultants will then create a scope of your business’s strengths, weaknesses, threats, and potential opportunities as well as goals to meet your objectives.
To better understand your business, be sure to bring:
- Business plan
- Marketing materials
- Your product
Each of our consultants are unique and bring different things to the table. They’ll help you connect you with the resources for your specific field, any issues you may have, and processes you can utilize. They will then create a follow-up plan for your second appointment to discuss next steps.
Your next appointment
At your second appointment, your consultant will evaluate the progress made from the first appointment and see what can be improved. Your consultant will then work with you to set new objectives and discuss strategies you can implement so you can keep moving towards your goals. Towards the end of your session, your consultant should discuss your next steps and what you can prep for in the next session.
